Today, Wednesday August 13, at 1:35 p.m., the Galesburg Education Association attempted to take Superintendent Bart Arthur up on his statement to the media that he was willing to meet with us at any time to reach a contract settlement. The GEA requested to meet with the District 205 Board of Education to continue negotiations on Thursday at 8 a.m. The School Board’s attorney has notified the GEA that the Board refuses to meet for further negotiations until next week.
This forces the extension of the strike, prolongs the time that students are out of the classroom, and further delays all athletic activities until at least sometime next week.
The GEA is once again disappointed at the Board’s continued lack of effort to reach an agreement that produces the best education environment for our students, educators and the community.
